Bed Bug Bites vs Spider Bites

Bed Bug Bites vs Spider Bites

When you wake up and realize you have an itchy bite mark on your arm, the source may not be so obvious at first. Knowing the difference between bed bug bites and spider bites can be helpful in determining what kind of pest has invaded your home.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are reddish-brown, oval-shaped insects and can range from 1-7 millimeters in size. They prefer to live in dark, soft areas like sheets and mattresses. Bed bugs usually bite in groups of two to five and will most often bite exposed skin.

Signs of Bed Bug Bites

  • Itching sensations
  • Red, welted marks
  • Possible blisters
  • Skin flare ups

Spiders

Spiders are eight-legged arthropod creatures that like to set up nest in dark and damp areas. They generally bite in self-defense and will most often bite exposed skin that is close to their webs.

Signs of Spider Bites

  • Local pain
  • Red marks
  • Swollen area or blistering
  • Fever and chills

If you think have either of these bugs in your home, it is best to consult a pest control specialist. Bites from both can cause discomfort, but spider bites may be more serious and can require medical care.
